Happy New Years to all!!! 2023 is here. I look forward to the New Year and seeing what amazing things we do together. Lots of events are happening this month. If any of this information is difficult to read or access at home, please come see us at the ILC office and we can print out a calendar or go over the events with you. Start thinking about what activities we can plan for this year. Stay tuned for an upcoming Planning Meeting for 2023 in February!!!!

TRAILS/ILC Events
Inclusive Curling @ sparc on January 25th from 1:45 pm t0 2:45 pm for $5 for TRAILS members & $10 for Non-members
Curling is back this year!!! First and third Wednesdays starting December 21st. Everybody can play, sitting, standing or kneeling. Drop in, learn the basics and play a game. Curling is a mix of bocce, shuffleboard and bowling. No experience needed. Come dressed for playing on the ice (it's cold!!)and bring a clean pair of indoor shoes.

TRAILS Artability Group @ Homer Art & Frame co. on alternating mondays & fridays from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm
New TRAILS activity for Homer!!! Join us at the Homer Art and Frame where we will create art together (4001 Lake St #3)
This is a group lead activity, which means you have a say on what we do. Do you have a special skill you'd like to share with others? Would you like some guidance with water colors and perspective? Have zero experience with a paintbrush but would like to try something new? This is the place for you. We can offer all levels of support. Projects and mediums will change monthly. First project will be watercolors.


Midtown-midweek-midday Walk on the poopdeck trail behind the ilc Every wednesday from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
Meet behind the ILC building. Bring ice cleats and walking sticks if you have them. We have a few loaners. Dress for the weather. The Poopdeck Platt Trail connects Pioneer all the way to Bishop's Beach and is mostly wheelchair friendly. Call us if you have any mobility needs we can assist with. Join us for a walk to Two Sisters Bakery and have a coffee and chat.

ILC & SAIL presents Disability art & craft group @ Central ILC's A.T./Conference room on the last thursday of every month from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm for free
Please join us on the last Thursday of every month at the Independent Living Center for group art and crafting. Materials provided! Meet new folks from around the state as this group will meet on Zoom. Come for some snacks and crafts!!!

Community Events
Beluga Slough Ice lantern Walk @ Alaska Maritime National wildlfie refuge & ocean visitor center on the 14th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm for free
Volunteers needed to help make the magic happen! Make Ice Lanterns for the Ice Lantern Walk(ALL ages welcome). The Lantern Walk will be held on January 14 on the trail from AK Maritime NWR Islands & Ocean Visitor Center down to Old Town, 4pm -7pm. The Lanterns will light the day and the New Year. be part of the magic.

Buti YOga Tuesdays @ Homer high school green room on tuesdays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm for $10
Buti Yogais a mix of traditional yoga and tribal dance created by trainer Bizzie Gold. This workout is based on the traditions of African, Native American and Middle Eastern dance, combining them to create a cardio-dance yoga workout.
Buti is a music-driven movement methodology that incorporates dynamic yoga asana with primal movement, cardio-dance bursts and deep core conditioning. Please bring a yoga mat, towel and water. Free community yoga @ sparc every wednesday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Join instructor Orion Donicht at the SPARC! for free community yoga Wednesday's in the month of January from 6 to 7pm. This beginner level series is designed to be simple but challenging. All you need is a yoga mat (please bring your own if you can but extras will be available), water bottle, and clothes you can easily move in. All ages and abilities welcome!

Tai chi (taiji) & qigong @ herc on thursdays from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm for $60 (All classes)
These related health and longevity arts originated in China and are excellent for mind and body health. They are effective for managing stress, enhancing resilience, improving balance, musculoskeletal strength, heart health and mental focus. Classes are open to both beginning students and those with experience. These movement classes are done standing and stepping and designed to build skills through repetition. Jam Sessions @ HCOA Every thursday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm for free
Facilitated by Cathy Stingley (fiddle), Community Jam Sessions are open to all instruments and abilities. Join us on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm, bring your instrument, your music, and an open mind! Sessions will explore a range of genres based on attendees' interest. Light refreshments available.
Free play @ the kevin bell arena every sunday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm

Get outdoors and enjoy the winter weather at Wynnter Sunday Fundays! Join us every Sunday from 1:00-3:00pm starting January 8 until March 26 at the Wynn Nature Center for games, s'mores, hotdogs, science and family fun! Mental Health Crafting Saturdays @ Kenai Peninsula College on January 14th, 21st & 28th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm for free
Mental Health & Crafting Group is back! Join us this Saturday from 2:00-4:00pm at Kenai Peninsula College for conversations and crafting! Conversations will be led by a Therapist focusing on making hard decisions and calming chaos. For more information call 907-235-6667 or email irpcacs@gmail.com!

Last Friday Live Music Series @ Silver Linings Cafe on the 27th and last friday of every month at 12:00 pm for $7.50(+55 age) or &15.00(54 & under)
Join us every last Friday of the month for live music in the Silver Linings Cafe! The music starts at 12:00pm! Lunch prices- $7.50 (55+) ; $15.00 (54 and under). Suggested donation of $7 for those age 60 and above and a price of $15 for those age 59 – 12; under 12 is $5. Meals include soup, salad, entree, dessert and coffee, tea or juice!
